Güner Ekiz graduated from her Bachelor of Science degree in Basic and Industrial Microbiology from Ege University in 2004. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Bioengineering from the same university in 2008. Later in 2016, she reveived a Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering from Ege University, with the thesis titled “Research on Bioactive Secondary Metabolite Profile of Septofusidium berolinense and Biotransformation of Cycloartane Type Saponins by Endophytic Fungi”. Subsequently, she continued her research as a Postdoctoral Researcher at IZTECH (İzmir Institute of Technology). She was also a visiting researcher at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark-Functional Genomics Research Group (2012) and Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, Germany (HZI)-Department of Microbial Drugs (2014).
Güner Ekiz joined the Faculty of Pharmacy at Near East University in October 2017. She was appointed as Assistant Professor and the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology in August 2018. Her research interests include biotechnology, biotransformation, microbial processes and products, bioactive secondary metabolites, microbial drugs, bioactivity-guided isolation and purification of natural products.
