Assist. Prof. Dr. Güner Ekiz, Dr. Buket Baddal, Assist. Prof. Dr. Meryem Güvenir, Specialist Emrah Güler and Specialist Nazife Sultanoğlu, who are academic members of the Near East University Faculties of Pharmacy, Medicine and Health Sciences; and also research members of the NEU Experimental Health Sciences Research Centre (DESAM) where they have been carrying out scientific studies in the fields of microbiology and microbial biotechnology have been awarded a grant to attend a congress by the Turkish Microbiology Society (TMC) and the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS).

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public relations of Near East University due to their studies Assist. Prof. Dr. Güner Ekiz, Dr. Buket Baddal, Assist. Prof. Dr. Meryem Güvenir, Specialist Emrah Güler and Specialist Nazife Sultanoğlu have been awarded a grant to attend the 38th Turkish Microbiology Congress on 4-8 November 2018 (FEMS) to be held Istanbul, Turkey. Details were provided regarding the congress and stated that many contemporary issues related to medical microbiology, food microbiology, environmental microbiology, molecular microbiology, pharmaceutical microbiology and microbial biotechnology will be addressed at the congress. Furthermore, the above mentioned researchers from the Near East University will find the opportunity to make presentations on various studies they had carried out at this platform.

Prof. Dr. Güner Ekiz kongrede will be sharing information on the effects of anti-aging and regarding an issue which is highly addressed nowadays; biotransformation studies via fungi on cycloastragenol and its derivatives. Dr. Buket Baddal stated that as the genetic miracle of the 21st century, CRISPR/Cas9 gene modification technology is used to identify the Streptococcus pyogenesis which causes throat infection and how the bacteria defines the new receptors and with the help of these receptors, invasive streptococcus and how antimicrobial methods are developed for the treatment of the infected throat.
